Tips for changing verbs into nouns

When searching for sources in databases, your best bet is to use the noun form. Here are some ideas of how you can move from a verb to a noun.

Add an appropriate suffix.

  • -ance/-ence: reliance, insistence
  • -ity/-ty: brutality, equality, cruelty
  • -ment: amazement, disappointment
  • -ness: happiness, kindness, usefulness
  • -sion/-tion/-xion: expression, population, complexion
