The EBSCOhost database is multidisciplinary, which can increase the depth and breadth of your searches. Be sure to build your searches in EBSCO with purpose. Don't try to include every possible keyword in your initial search. Start broad to cast a wide net. For example, begin with your major concept. In our session, we started with the concept of community policing.
Examine the results and ask yourself some questions. Is my concept a subject term? What secondary concept could I add to narrow the focus? In our session, we added the second concept of crime.
Finally, we built our search with the third concept of united states.
In addition to the search that we built, we also added the Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals limiter to retrieve the most credible results.
Remember, there are lots of other limiters available in EBSCOhost. Be sure to reach out to a librarian if you need assistance. Don't forget to use the Email and Cite tools.
