Basic Search for Early Childhood Education

Using OneSearch to Locate Ebooks

  • Use the OneSearch service from the library’s homepage (https://library.fullcoll.edu)
  • Start with a basic search like “history of early childhood education.” You can always add more search terms later.
  • There are several electronic books (i.e. eBooks) that will probably meet your research needs. One is titled Early childhood education and care : history, policy, and social work practice.
  • If you click on the above title and click on the link to the full-text of the electronic book, you will see a chapter related to the history of earlychildhood education.

  • Click on the title of the chapter to read the full text. You can save the full text of this chapter by downloading the chapter or emailing yourself a link. These options are available in the upper right-hand corner of the page. There is also a cite option (quotation marks) where you can retrieve an MLA or APA citation for articles, eBook chapters, etc.

Using OneSearch to Find Reference Entries

  • Aside from electronic books, another good source of information on your topic are our “Reference Entries.” These are brief introductions to complex topics. You can locate “Reference Entries” by using the “Resources Type” search filter (located on the left-hand side of the screen in OneSearch). See the image below:

  • After clicking on “Reference Entries,” you will see several results that provide basic definitions and background information on topics related to early childhood education.
  • If you locate a Reference Entry that seems relevant to your research topic, click on the entry’s title. You will locate a link to the full-text of the entry. Remember to save and cite your work.
  • There are many more resources besides electronic books and Reference Entries that will meet your research needs. Try experimenting with different keywords and exploring other Resource Types to locate more materials. You can also chat with us from our library homepage, or make a personal appointment using our Book a Librarian (https://fullcoll.libcal.com/appointments) service.
