Finding Books in the Catalog
Finding Books
Follow these steps from the home tab of this research guide or from the library webpage:
-
Click on the tab called "Catalog" within the search box.
-
Now you can search for your topic or title by typing in your broad keywords.
-
Change the search type if needed.
-
Finally, you can click on the search button!
-
If you need to search by author or our textbooks on Course Reserves, click on the link "More Search Options" to the right of the search button.
Alternatively, you can find print and ebooks in the OneSearch search box and use filters on the left-hand side to narrow your results down to the "Catalog." If filters don't immediately appear, click on the left side arrows tab for the filter panel to slide out.
Reference Books
Wait, what is a "reference" book?
A reference book is different from our regular books. They are what we refer to as dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks. We have print and ebook options to choose from in the catalog. They are great for giving background information on a topic!
Use broad keywords and the handy "Reference" filter to limit book results to reference books.
Pro Tip: Use ebook encyclopedias or dictionaries instead of a questionable website to define a disease or disorder.
Filters
Overwhelmed by results? Use the filter links on the right side of your result page to add filters and only see (print) books, or ebooks, or other limitations.
Once you have selected one or more filters, it will give you the option to remove each filter if you change your mind.
