Where to Find Keywords

Locate possible subjects and keywords you can use to refine and narrow your search.

Start with the PROMPT. You can often find keywords in your assignment prompt to help you construct searches. In addition, you can frequently discover keywords in the following places:

  • Subjects
  • Titles
  • Abstracts

In this prompt, you might find some keywords:

Note that in your essay you might want to discuss entertainment vs. political criticism.

Based on the words above, you can try an initial search like:

Political satire and (criticism or challenge)

Research will require continual refining of your search strategy. The search above is just a first try, but from the results, if you look in the subjects, titles, and abstracts, you'll find keywords and subjects such as the following:

  • Political cartoons
  • Political satire
  • Satirists
  • Television talk shows -- Political aspects 
  • Wit and humor--Political aspects
