Introduction to Searching Nexis Uni

Step 1: Enter Your Search Terms

Enter your search term(s).

  • Nexis Uni will suggest sources, documents and search term(s) to guide your research process.
  • If you would like to enter multiple search terms, please see the Advanced Search page for guidance.

Step 2: Narrow Your Search

You can search all Nexis Uni content by clicking the magnifying glass, or use the Content Types drop-down menu and narrow your search to a single source or group of sources. Choose Legal to get started.

Use the various options to limit your search to a specific country and research focus: cases, legislation, law reviews, forms, etc.

If you choose to search for U.S. cases, you will be presented with options to further focus your search. You can limit your search to a court system, circuit, or state.

Step 3: Filter Your Results

Use the available search filters to narrow your results and focus your search.

A popular filter is the Timeline. This allows you to set-up a specific date range for your search.

You can limit your search to a specific practice area.

Nexis Uni has other available search filters to help focus your search and limit the number of overall results. To find out more about using basic search filters in Nexis Uni, watch this brief video from Lexis.
