During the COVID-19 shutdown, the News Literacy Project has removed all barriers to access their resources: Everything in the Checkology virtual classroom will be available at no charge for the 2020-21 school year and beyond. This includes all 13 lessons, which cover such topics as misinformation, bias, the watchdog role of the press, and the First Amendment, along with challenges, quizzes and other features

This Digital Resource Center is all about sharing the accumulating wisdom and materials of the News Literacy teaching community, which works to strengthen democracy by teaching students to pluck reliable information from the daily media tsunami. With funding from the McCormick and MacArthur Foundations, the Center for News Literacy at Stony Brook has built a feed of fresh materials, a searchable archive of past materials, a semiprivate forum for professional discussions, a publishing platform, a teacher-training course and a new course-development template. All of that is available to registered users via smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC.

First Draft formed as a nonprofit coalition with nine founding partners in June 2015, providing practical and ethical guidance in how to find, verify, and publish content sourced from the social web. They later partnered with the Shorenstein Center for Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School and the University of Technology Sydney’s Centre for Media Transition. It closed in June 2022 to work with the Information Futures Lab at Brown University, but the web site still has useful resources.

UNESCO Open Access publication. This publication is divided into two parts. Part 1 provides the Media and Information Literacy Curriculum and Competency Framework, which gives an overview of the curriculum rationale, design and main themes. It is complementary to the UNESCO Information and Communication Technology Competency Framework for Teachers (2008). Part 2 includes the detailed Core and Non-Core Modules of the curriculum.
