Fake news is a hot topic and a big problem! What can you do to help stop spreading false information? Find out how to evaluate news and news sources.

Why should you care?

Why should you care about reliable and unreliable news?

  • If you base your arguments on false news, it undermines your credibility.
  • You might make bad decisions based on false information. Think about incorrect medical advice and the possible consequences on your health if you follow the wrong information.
  • Reliable news can be beneficial to you. There is a lot of useful information on many topics such as finding student loans, what to do during emergency situations, and information about financial investing, but you have to be able to recognize scams. 
  • It is in your interest to get reliable information about political issues and candidates so you can make informed decisions when you vote.
  • A free press that publishes articles on local and national policy issues, corruption, political candidates, and other topics is necessary for a healthy democracy.
