This guide on OER (Open Educational Resources) is designed to give FC faculty some basic information that will encourage the adoption and implementation of OER in their courses.
Indicates the cost of course materials for the section
Only the cost of course textbooks (including lab manuals) andsupplementary materials (including software and homeworksystems) are to be reported
Open education resources (OER) are those educational resourcesthat reside in the public domain or have been released under anintellectual property license, such as a Creative Commonslicense, that permits their free use and repurposing by others
Things to Consider for XB12 Reporting
• Course materials refers to any textbook, lab book, software and/or homework system necessary to participate in the course
• XB12 is looking at the primary textbook/course materials used for the course
• Faculty likely use other free resources when teaching a course, but the course materials that would normally bear cost are key
• Supplies are not included in XB12 reporting
• If more than one required course material is necessary to teach a course, any cost-bearing course material should be reported for XB12
